Overcoming Fear
I always wanted to learn how to swim, but just when I’d learned the basics in a required swimming class in high school, I had a frightening setback. At the beach one day, two boys came rushing up, grabbed me by my arms and legs, and threw me in the ocean! Even though I wasn’t hurt, I became terrified of the water. For years I wanted to swim and prayed to get over the fear. I found a swim teacher who told me she always prayed with her students. I made an appointment. When I arrived, she smiled and took my hand and said where is your swimsuit? I thought we were going to pray. She said we are, but we are also going to swim. After weeks of prayer and practice, I finally, fearlessly, swam across the pool. I learned that when I need help with a task, to pray and then get to work. — Anonymous
